Bakesale Betty’s fried chicken sandwich is one of the first things my kids ask for when they come home from college. They are addictive!
They make their own bread, and the sandwiches are put together with homemade jalapeño coleslaw and buttermilk fried chicken breasts. The chicken is juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. And the portions are huge!
They also sell the most wonderful desserts. The chocolate chip cookies and strawberry shortcake are both amazing. They occasionally have the most delicious homemade lemonade as well.
I can’t remember how we first heard about Bakesale Betty, but I do remember seeing the line go all the way down the block. And they were so worth the wait! On sunny days, the line still is super long. The line moves quickly, and they pass out cookies to people who are waiting, and that makes the wait even more worth it. It is a takeout place, but they line up ironing boards as tables with stools in case you just can’t wait to get home to eat your food.
Bakesale Betty is in the black building located at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Telegraph Avenue in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland.
Will you become addicted when you try the sandwich?
